Kya Sands Children’s Christmas Party

Kya Sands Children’s Christmas Party

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum and the Douglasdale Police joined forces to host the third annual Year End party for the children of Kya Sands. Local community development agency, The Daily Bread Organisation coordinated the event.

The party was held Saturday December 10, 2011 at the Judah Africa Revival Ministries church in Kya Sands. The children were entertained with singing and dancing as well as bouncy castles, netball, soccer and volleyball and other games.

1000 children from the community each received a meal, then Father Christmas arrived and handed out presents to all the children. After the children’s party, the police together with community volunteers handed out 500 food parcels to the people of Kya Sands.

The Year End party showed the community that the police do not only enforce the law but also care deeply about the community they work with. They also showed the children that there is hope and that there are communities and organisations that care for their welfare and that there is an alternative to crime. A great opportunity for the supporting community to get involved and showing they care.

Companies and individuals sponsored financial donations, sweets/chocolates/crisps/biscuits, drinks, toys, food hampers and much more which all contributed towards the success of the event.

The Daily Bread Org team/ DDCPF Social Upliftment has tirelessly worked to achieve the dream of establishing a library in the Kya Sands informal settlement.

The Green Beings Team in collaboration with I love JHB and volunteers planted 33 indigenous trees. As well as planted smaller shrubs and flowers in an indigenous garden display built with old tyres.

They also used the tyres as a border for the library grounds. This is part of an on-going project to promote clean, green, safe spaces for communities to enjoy, and help achieve their vision of sustainable communities in symbiosis with nature.
