World Record Attempt

Siblings, Jason Chalmers (36) and Tamlyn Locke (26) will be attempting to set a World Record with the World Records Academy. The official record title is: The greatest distance on a scooter (125cc) in 24 hours.

Jason and Tamlyn both intend riding a stock standard 125cc scooter from Johannesburg to Cape Town, a total of 1400 km’s in the 24 hours. Bearing in mind that a 125cc scooter can only achieve speeds of around 70 km/h, it will take them the full 24 hours to reach Cape Town.

They will depart on September 18, 2010 at midday from Montecasino (West entrance) in Fourways and arrive at midday on September 19 at the Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town. Both Montecasino and Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town are official sponsors of the event.

A key aspect of any world record is the evidence required by the organisation to prove that all criteria were met. For this reason, Tracetec has equipped both scooters with a satellite tracking device which will record all relevant data such as the GPS positioning, travel time and speed for the entire journey.

The data will then be verified by Tracetec for submission to World Records Academy, based in Miami. Tracetec has also joined the event as an official sponsor. In addition, Slipdisk Productions, another official sponsor, will film the event and provide video evidence for World Records Academy.

Jason and Tamlyn are not only siblings, but also business partners. The world record attempt also forms part of the launch for their new product, Adatude, a web based record authenticating and publishing service exclusively for South Africans in South Africa. The objective of their new product is to provide South Africans with a platform for setting and achieving goals and to showcase their Adatude.

The cost of setting a world record is fairly substantial, for this reason Adatude was conceptualised to provide the same services at a local level with a local and very affordable cost. They will also provide assistance to anyone wanting to set a world record.
