On Tuesday afternoon the South African Army were asked to come and assist with keeping the situation in order. The army arrived in KyaSands at 4pm to ensure residents are kept safe during the night.
A huge crowd of residents gathered around to watch the army officers climb out of their vehicles and march down the street.
They took up position with the South African police force and Metro Police officers. The army officers were briefed on the situation and shown around the problem areas.
Two more arrests were made, one for assault and the other suspect was arrested for being in possession of stolen copper cable which was recovered.
As MEC of Safety and Security Khabisi Mosunkuthu promised, Joburg City Power workers were seen restoring the lights in the area.
Police hope that the display of power will warn criminals off from any other acts of crime and stop any planned attacks. The army will be in the area until around midnight; thereafter the special forces will be taking over to monitor the informal settlement until the morning.
The police helicopter is on standby and will be flying over during the evening to see that the situation is under control.
