Douglasdale SAPS arrest armed robbers

On Sunday night August 1, 2010 at 6pm the Pineslopes shopping centre Spar in Lonehill was robbed by between 12 and 14 armed suspects who arrived in three vehicles and held the staff and patrons at gun point.
Douglasdale Crime Prevention officers drove into the parking lot and were informed by a car guard that there was an armed robbery in progress. They called for back up and waited for the suspects to exit the spar.
When the suspects saw the police they started running and fired shots, police fired one warming shot but didn’t want fire any more shots as there were too many patrons around.
Douglasdale police officers managed to arrest two suspects and recover two firearms as well as some of the stolen goods which such as handbags, wallets, cellphones and money.
The other suspects ran down Witkoppen and jumped into a taxi and managed to get away but police are investigating and hope to make further arrests.
