Female raped by a security guard

Danielle Dooley

A night out ended in a nightmare when a 32 year old woman was raped by a Montecasino security guard on the Level 7 parking lot.

On Friday evening May 14, a Fourways couple and family members went out for an evening of celebration at Montecasino. This celebration was due to a permanent position she was offered at work.

Her husband and her sister-in-law decided to go to the casino to try their luck on the slot machines. The wife, her nephew and his friend do not gamble and decided to go dancing instead. At around 3am they (the wife, nephew and friend) decided to go home, as it was a long evening.

She requested her nephew to look for her husband while she and his friend decided to wait at the car. Her nephew took some time to return, and then the friend went looking for them. He too took sometime to return. She then proceeded to look on her own, and couldn’t find either of them.

She returned to the vehicle to wait. She then was approached by a Montecasino security guard, who introduced himself as George. He asked if he could be off assistance, as he observed that she had been walking up and down. She told him that she was looking for her husband, and it was late and she wanted to go home.

He said that he knew the owner of the vehicle and that he came there often and had seen him win allot of money at Montecasino, and that he knew exactly what machine he was playing on he would take her to him. He seemed very helpful and convincing, so she decided to go with him, as it was freezing and her jacket was in the car and she had been waiting for a long time.

She proceeded to go to the stairs, when he said that they should use the lift as he was on that side, she believed him and got into the lift. She was cold and shivering; he took off his blazer and put it around her shoulders. She refused, but he insisted, “it’s fine” he would get it back when they reached her husband.

He continued to talk to her in the lift, he asked if she came to Montecasino often, She said no. “She’ll get lost in this place”. As the lift opened he directed her outside into the parking lot, it was dark and she noticed that there was only one car there.

She immediately knew something was wrong, she asked him, “What are we doing here; my husband can’t be here, what’s wrong with you?”
He saw that she was not going to go any further with him. She started to back track, he grabbed her at the stairs, she screamed for him to let her go, and he said he would kill her if she made another sound.

She offered him anything he wanted if he let go, but he refused and said he wanted her and nothing else. She begged him to let her go, and she told him she had children. He replied that he will break her neck and throw her into the trees where no one would find her for days.
He forced her onto the floor, holding both her hands together so that she was unable to move or fight him off. He then pulled off her pants and pulled down his trousers and raped her.

She tried to move, but he was so heavy and strong. He towered over her; he was smothering her with his arm, as she continued to beg him to stop.

He was interrupted by noises from the lower level staircase, and as he bent over to see who was coming, he lifted his body off her, and she was able to kick him, his phone fell and he moved to pick it up then she ran to the lift. He ran after her, by then she was already inside, he held the doors open, begging her not to tell anyone what he had done, she was afraid and said that he must let her go and she will not say anything as all she wanted was to get away from him.

He threatened her that if she spoke about what happened he would kill her and her children as he had taken down her number plate, and would be able to track them down. She promised him she would not tell anyone, and he then let go of the doors and she managed to get away, from him.

She thought he was following her, as the doors opened to the second floor, she ran to the security guard’s there screaming hysterically, that she had just been raped by a security guard, They said they didn’t believe her, and she told them to go and look for him on the seventh floor, but none of them wanted to go and investigate, immediately.

She was assisted by a female security guard; they asked if she knew where her husband had parked the car. She stated that the car was at Level 3, The Security guard escorted her to the vehicle, where, she found her family looking for her.

She was in shock and total dismay that this had happened to her. She was questioned over and over by the Security staff, regarding “George”, She described to them in detail, what he was wearing and who he was and that he was not wearing a name tag. He had given her the wrong name and removed his name tag (it is since known that his real name is Thomas).

The police were only called once her husband asked the security if they had notified the police. Officers from Douglasdale police station arrived at the scene and took her to the police station for a statement, just hours after her ordeal. She was then taken to Olivedale Clinic for tests.

A case of rape was opened and the suspect was handed over to the Douglasdale police officers on Saturday May 15, 2010. after the Head of Security viewed the CCTV footage.
The case docket has been opened and the suspect appeared in Court on Monday May 17, 2010, on charges of Rape.

Comment from Montecasino: Rape allegation against a Servest officer
A charge of rape has been laid against a Servest security officer stationed at Montecasino. The man appeared in court today for a bail application.

Servest provides outsourced security services to Montecasino. We have been informed that their security officer contends that the incident was consensual.

Montecasino has co-operated fully with the South African Police Service investigation. As soon as the Montecasino security team was informed of the incident earlier this month, they immediately viewed camera footage and took statements from both parties. Senior security management went to the accused man’s house to question him, and then took him to the police station where he was arrested.

Montecasino views this matter in a serious light and, regardless of the outcome, regards the officer’s behaviour as unacceptable. We will not, under any circumstances, tolerate the behaviour to which Servest says the officer has admitted, and we have requested Servest to institute disciplinary proceedings.

As the matter is under police investigation, further queries should be directed to the Douglasdale Police Station at 011-699-1311.

SICK

This is just sick! Montecasino will be packed with international visitors in just a couple of weeks and now this happens. I hope South Africa is exposed for what it really is... a haven for criminals!
