Successful businesswoman, style icon, fashionista and first lady among South Africa’s local A-list celebrities, Edith Venter celebrated yet another year of success and achievement on Wednesday, July 12, 2011 at her 61st birthday party.

Some of Edith’s closest friends gathered at the magnificent Palazzo Montecasino to share in this momentous occasion and pay tribute to one of South Africa’ most influential women, who has inspired so many during her reign as the “sovereign” of style and grace.

Edith, her two sons and husband, Johnny Schwartz, as well as their guests, were treated to an afternoon of special surprises, laughter and the time-honoured tradition of High Tea in the beautiful, serene setting of Café Rialto at The Palazzo Montecasino.

To celebrate Edith’s first year of her successful new venture, Edith Venter Unlimited, 61 balloons filled with inspirational quotes from Edith’s book The Art of Good Living were released into the sky above The Palazzo Montecasino Hotel.

A perfect afternoon was rounded off with a cabaret performance - a twist on the famous Marilyn Monroe “Happy birthday ‘Mrs.’ President” - by South African group, Little Sister as well as a surprise happy birthday serenade by the Springbok caption, John Smit, who along with the rest of the Bok team is staying at the hotel before they leave for overseas.

The day was a superb reflection of the glamour and sophistication that are the hallmarks of the “one and only” Edith Venter, undoubtedly one of South Africa’s most loved social icons.
Afternoon High Tea can be enjoyed at The Palazzo Montecasino daily between 3pm and 5pm. For more information, contact the Palazzo Montecasino on 011-510-3700.
