Bellairs drive update

The situation on Bellairs Drive is becoming totally unacceptable.
I get continuous calls from residents wanting to know what is going on as there seems to be no progress.
Some might have heard me on Radio 702 explaining the situation but for those who did not here is a recap.
The contractor for Bellairs Drive has fallen behind schedule by about 12 weeks. For legal reasons JRA had to give them 2 weeks to meet certain targets which did not happen.
They are now busy with the legal process to remove them from site.
To make matters worse they did not pay their labour for the last month nor the CLO for 2 months.
Sub-contractors have also not been paid.
In order to speed up the resolution of this I have requested JRA and the MMC for transport to forego the procurement process and negotiate with another contractor on site.
I view this as an emergency as the residents cannot be inconvenienced any longer than absolutely necessary.
More updates will follow as news comes to hand.

Bellairs Drive disgrace

Any update on a new road contractor for Bellairs Drive? It will soon be rainy season, and we will not have access to our own properties! I sincerely hope that someone has taken this matter in hand and understands the seriousness of the matter.

We wait in vain for a response from anyone!!!
I strongly question the procedures that were in place for the awarding of the tender for upgrades to Bellairs Drive.
The thousands of residents on this dreadful stretch of road have had to complain for years for action to be taken and now we sit with a road which is worse than the semi-gravel road we used to travel on.
Who is sitting with the inconvenience of the extra 2,5km detour get home? The damage to the vehicles of the residents(wear and tear, chipped paint!!)?? With the rainy season upon us we can expect to see what is left of the tarmac on Bellairs Drive being washed away, leaving the residents with a road which WILL be completely unsafe to travel on.
I applaud Clr. Bittkau for his efforts, however I question why residents like Mr. de Stadler are having to take the matter up with the JRA and Transport minister!!
Perhaps it is time that the residents of Bellairs Drive stop paying the rates and taxes to a council who clearly have more important issues to deal with than the issues which affect their constituents!!
