Cyclist dies due to injuries in hospital

A cyclist believed to be in his forties has lost his life in hospital after colliding with a taxi on the R511 in the northern suburb of Johannesburg this morning, August 10, 2012.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the man lying in a ditch near to the road. Paramedics were informed that he had collided with a taxi and went into the windscreen. The taxi was off to the side of the road.

“Paramedics assessed the patient and found that he was in a serious condition. The patient had a suspected head injury, suspected neck and back injuries and a possible broken arm. They stabilised him on scene and transported him to hospital”, said Derrick Banks of ER24.

As the patient reached the hospital he started to deteriorate. Paramedics and trauma staff started CPR but unfortunately after a long battle to save his life he passed away.
