World renowned international scientist Barrie Trower talks about electromagnetic radiation

On April 19, 2010 a renowned British military scientist, Barrie Trower, gave a talk on at Fourways High School about the effects of electromagnetic radiation caused by broadband and cellphone towers on our environment and lives. The talk was welcomed by all those who had been personally affected by EM radiation.

On August 7, 2009, an iBurst broadband tower was erected outside the Fourways Memorial Park. Residents enquiring about the activity outside the park were advised by the owner of the Park that they were erecting a cell tower.

Residents were than advised by the environmental consultant for iBurst that they were awaiting final approval from the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs and that once received, residents would be allowed thirty days within which to object.

This however never transpired and it was later learned that iBurst had received the amended final decision in September 2009 after the tower went up. Residents were not informed about the decision as is required by law and were never given a chance to object as they had been advised by Iburst’s environmental company.

In response the Craigavon residents formed a task team to investigate the matter. It was discovered that apart from a notice that had been put up at the entrance to the Memorial Park, no other notification had been received by any of the complexes surrounding the Park and the Tower. The law specifically states that notification should be given to all persons within 100 metres of the site. Entire complexes were not notified and complex heads have given affidavits stating this fact.

Shortly after the tower was activated, the residents of Craigavon started experiencing headaches, nausea, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), disrupted sleep patterns, unexplained rashes, memory loss, gastric disturbances, fatigue and high blood pressure. These symptoms are all consistent with EM radiation. The talk by Mr Trower shed some light on the spate of illnesses experienced by residents.

Most of the Craigavon residents have been living there since the community started and don’t want to have to move, but even if they do put their houses on the market, feel they won’t be able to sell their homes for the amount they should be valued at. They don’t want to rent their houses out because of the ethical problems in doing so -- they are moving out for health reasons, and cannot expect another family to rent from them and also be at risk of suffering the same effects.

They also feel they should not have to give up their homes just because iBurst has put up a broadband tower. It’s a safe community with a country feel and they were all really happy there before the tower went up. They want to get the tower down and that’s their goal -- they didn’t approve it, want it or sign it off. The landowner did not ask or notify his neighbours either so is also liable in the matter.

They hoped they would be able to work together with either Iburst or the local authorities to solve the problems, but having exhausted internal remedies, they are now preparing to go to court and have appointed a legal team.

Barrie Trower’s talk:
During the Cold War, Trower specialised in microwave and "stealth" warfare, and his forte was in the interrogation of what he calls "microwave spies" -- agents infiltrated into the West who were using pulsed microwaves to target politicians and other influential people, as well as dissidents, in order to affect their health and mental state.

It is a fact that microwaves have been used as a stealth weapon in this way for over 60 years. One of the more famous incidents was the decades-long microwave irradiation of the US Embassy in Moscow, which saw many staffers becoming ill, and three ambassadors dying of leukaemia. An official enquiry concluded that this irradiation, although carried out at very low levels, had a serious impact on the health of embassy staff.

In the course of Trower's work, he compiled a list of 40 pulsed frequencies and about 60 effects they caused, including psychological problems such as depression, mood swings, sexual aggression, suicidal tendencies and impaired judgement, and health problems like lowered immunity and cancer.

When he saw these effects being created in the general population through cellphone technology -- which uses pulsed microwaves operating on some of the frequencies known to cause harm -- he started speaking out about the problem, and now in his retirement Trower travels the world, offering his services for free to any government, local authority, school or even private individual concerned with finding the truth about the effects of this radiation.

He also offers evidence in lawsuits, including the case where the Greek prime minister was "bugged" via his cellphone, and in a class action lawsuit in the UK where nearly 200 police officers are taking legal advice for possible recourse due to their health being affected by the Tetra microwave communication system they use. In a report commissioned by the Police Federation of England and Wales, Trower warned that this system could also cause severe lapses in judgement and violent behaviour in police officers.

Trower has made presentations to oncologists showing the exact mechanisms whereby microwave exposure leads to cancer, and in his public lectures stresses the special vulnerability of women to breast and ovarian cancers.

Trower was invited to Botswana by King Kgafela II of the Bakgatla tribe, and conducted an in-depth workshop on April 16. The tribe became involved in the issue when a cellphone mast was erected near the royal residence, which the king felt had affected the health of his family, with his father dying of a brain tumour.

After unsuccessful negotiations with the operator, tribespeople took it upon themselves to destroy the mast, causing a stir in the country. The workshop attended by top government officials, including a minister and several permanent secretaries, civil society organisations, tribal authorities from around the country and the media left none of those present in any doubt that there are serious hazards associated with exposure to radiation from cellphone masts.

Some of the evidence he cites comes from the mobile industry itself, including the Ecolog study, a major survey which showed that low-level cellphone radiation can initiate and promote cancer, and damage DNA. In his talks, Trower said if people remembered one thing of what he said; it was that three studies now show genetic damage to the ovarian follicles in women.

This means that the mitochondrial DNA which is passed directly from mother to daughter and on down the female line is being permanently damaged. This will lead to genetic diseases such as Down's syndrome and cystic fibrosis, and Trower stressed that this genetic damage can never be repaired, and would remain for the entire future of the human race.

Again, he stressed the particular vulnerability of girls and women to this radiation, and that no pregnant woman should use a cellphone or be exposed to radiation from masts.

The other cancer indicated is childhood leukaemia, and by 2006 Trower had logged 200 leukaemia clusters of ten or more children near masts in the UK, France and Spain. At this point he got depressed by the exercise and stopped counting. In Johannesburg he spent time with Dominique Charlebois, a 13-year-old diagnosed with leukaemia, one of three in his school with the disease, of whom one has died.

Trower spoke strongly against placing cellphone masts and Wi-Fi systems in schools, and said that he guaranteed that any school with a cellphone mast would show increased health problems both in children and staff, and a drop in academic performance and behaviour in the school.

Looking at the legal arguments, he noted that the World Health Organisation told the European Parliament that it had only started looking into the effects of cellphone radiation on children in 2009, and would only start reporting on the general issues in 2015.

This means, he said, that the entire world is actually being used in an experimental trial, and noted that after the Second World War, the Nuremberg Treaty signed by all the allied countries -- absolutely forbids experiments on the population without their informed knowledge and consent. (The Bill of Rights of the SA Constitution also insists that no medical or scientific experiments can be carried out on people without their informed consent).

He said that this international binding agreement could be the "golden bullet" for people seeking legal redress from exposure to cellphone masts. "You have the right to say ‘No’ to being used in this experiment," he said.

Trower also made special reference to the environment, with thousands of scientific papers showing that microwaves affect a host of animals and plants, in particular bees, which are hit in a number of ways by this radiation "They don't stand a chance", he said, with microwaves interfering with all their navigation systems and lowering their immunity to disease.

He noted that the scientific economic correspondent of the London Times has estimated the worldwide losses to agriculture from loss of pollination at trillions of dollars per annum. He said that governments infatuated with the revenue they get from telecoms operators should balance this against these colossal losses, in addition to health costs increasing by up to 40%.

Brought to this part of the world by the newly formed Electromagnetic Radiation Research Foundation of South Africa, Barrie Trower stressed that there are ways in which this now-ubiquitous technology can be safely deployed, pointing to the Bio-initiative Report, in which top scientists considered thousands of scientific papers and established an interim level which they consider safer for general exposure. This level has been adopted by eight countries around the world as opposed to the ICNIRP levels used in South Africa.

The EMRRFSA has been formed to research the latest information on EM Radiation world-wide and disseminate that in South Africa to the relevant government officials, media, schools and interest groups.

After his very successful visit to South Africa and Botswana, plans are afoot to invite him back for a special environmental congress, hopefully to be attended by other leading scientists from around the world.

The EMRRFSA project has been endorsed by E. Oppenheimer and Sons, who have been doing research on the affects of EM/ artificial RF radiation on ants and insects in South Africa for several years now. EMRRFSA is also affiliated to the EM Radiation Research Trust UK.

(It should be noted that these guidelines may not be low enough for electrosensitive individuals and some researchers feel that these are just interim safer measures to be immediately adopted as advocated by the European Parliament and adopted by 8 countries already. No safe level has been determined for children.)

* The World Health Organisation (WHO) has only started looking at studies on children as of 2009 and has stated that it is unsure as to the present status on microwave radiation exposure and will only provide an estimate in 2015.

This contravenes the UN convention as based on the Nuremberg Code for Human Experimentation - ethics provisions, where a person has a right not to be experimented on and in fact has to provide formal consent to all inconveniences, hazzards and effects on health in order to be a part of that experiment. (The WHO does acknowledge that 3% of people are sensitive to Electromagnetic radiation.)

Barrie explained about the pulsing that is a major concern. Modulations enter the body as vibrations and can affect the natural vibrational frequency of the body. These pulses or modulations were listed in a letter by Barrie following his research during The Cold War.

Barrie noted that WHO has information on their website showing that 80% of their research shows a 3 to 4 fold increase in cancers and other related illnesses at extremely low levels of microwaves.
